In the present study a series of novel purine derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for antimicrobial activity. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR and mass spectral. Newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and antifungal (Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans) activity. The results revealed that, compounds 3a and 3b have exhibited good antifungal activity and compound 3a, 3b and 5 have moderate antibacterial activity against the tested microorganisms.
